Harmful Behaviours in Context: Understanding Risk, Responsibility and Response for FE and Skills

Workshop | LIVE - 20 January

This workshop has been tailored to meet the specific needs of the FE and Skills sectors, because safeguarding in FE and skills has never been more complex.

Young people can be exposed to many harms from online grooming and peer-on-peer abuse to exploitation and mental health-related vulnerabilities.

In 2025, the revised Education Inspection Framework and updated Prevent guidance make clear that providers must demonstrate a deep, contextual understanding of the risks their learners face.

Safeguarding specialists Psych-Logical will host this half-day interactive online workshop on recognising and responding to harmful behaviours within the realities of today’s post-16 education landscape

Through a blend of current research, real-world scenarios and reflective discussion, participants will strengthen their ability to recognise subtle signs of risk, understand the shared responsibilities across roles, and respond confidently and proportionately.

Whether you’re a frontline practitioner, manager, or senior leader, this session will help you connect safeguarding principles to your learners’ lived experiences.

Building staff confidence in safeguarding has clear and lasting benefits:

  • Learners feel secure and supported, more engaged and less likely to withdraw from learning.
  • Employers trust providers that help to keep younger apprentices safe in their workplaces
  • A strong safeguarding culture contributes directly to meeting Ofsted requirements, particularly in the revised EIF
  • Clear safeguarding processes and appropriate professional development reduces anxiety, burnout, and staff turnover.

In this interactive, half-day course, we’ll explore how to recognise concerning behaviours and respond appropriately — especially in the context of PREVENT, exploitation, and harmful sexual behaviour.

This session will help you:

  • Spot behavioural indicators that may point to safeguarding concerns
  • Understand the psychology of grooming and the process of radicalisation
  • Build effective intervention strategies — to protect yourself and others
  • Approach difficult conversations using trauma-informed techniques
  • Identify referral routes and key support agencies

This is a practical course. Through real-life scenarios and peer discussion, you’ll come away with a clear plan of action and greater confidence in your duty of care.

You will receive a CPD attendance certificate after the session, as evidence of your personal development.
