SDN supporting delivery of new Future Apprenticeships programme

publication2-700x241

SDN has been commissioned to deliver key resources, workshops and support packages to prepare providers to deliver new Apprenticeship Standards.

The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) has now launched the new Future Apprenticeships programme managed by the Association of Employment and Learning Providers (AELP), which will feature an intense programme of events over the next three months.

SDN will be delivering 30 workshop packages for large training providers and their supply chains, along with 10 workshop packages accessible to smaller providers. These will include intense face-to-face support for all provider staff, action-planning and follow-up support and resources. SDN will also be developing a comprehensive toolkit for the wider sector, covering all aspects of the Apprenticeship reforms.

Colin Bentwood, Managing Director of SDN, said: “We are delighted to be delivering several support strands in the Future Apprenticeships programme. As it stands, all Apprenticeship delivery will be based on new Standards and Assessment Plans by 2017 – this programme will be an vital source of support to prepare training providers for delivery.”

The programme will cover three strands:

  1. Delivering the new Apprenticeship standards – through support for curriculum development and teaching, learning and assessment strategies
  2. Supporting employer engagement – two-way street relationships between employers and providers
  3. Supporting leaders and those involved in governance to grow Apprenticeships

In a recent ETF press release, Jenny Williams, ETF Director of VET, said:  “We are committed to supporting the professional development of teachers and trainers involved in Apprenticeships.  Getting to grips with the new Trailblazer Standards, a new assessment regime, and new funding arrangements will involve new ways of working with employers and new ways of supporting apprentices’ learning.  Our programme is designed to build on the success of ASSP, and includes a significant offer for leaders and those involved in governance to help them plan to deliver growth over the next 5 years.”

Providers can now sign-up to the workshop packages and other support on the Future Apprenticeships webpage, which will be updated regularly as activities progress.

About the Future Apprenticeships programme

The Future Apprenticeships programme builds on the success of the Apprenticeship Staff Support Programme (ASSP) where a bank of resources and support was developed and delivered to training provider staff across the country. The programme will support leaders, managers, practitioners and governors to prepare to start delivering the new Apprenticeship Standards and Assessment Plans. The Future Apprenticeships programme is funded by The Education and Training Foundation and led by the Association of Employment and Learning Providers.
