If your progress reviews don’t change what happens next… they’re not reviews — they’re records.
Progress reviews are one of the most powerful tools apprenticeship providers have, but too often they’re shaped by compliance pressure rather than apprentice development. And in the current apprenticeship market, that simply isn’t sustainable.
With apprenticeship reforms continuing to reshape expectations, increasing scrutiny on off-the-job training, and growing pressure to demonstrate real curriculum impact, providers need progress reviews that are sharper, more purposeful, and more defensible, without creating more admin.
Ofsted’s findings in weaker apprenticeship provision haven’t shifted:
- off-the-job training squeezed by workload and employer pressure
- poor alignment between on- and off-the-job learning
- curriculum planning driven by compliance rather than progression
- progress captured but not acted on
- apprentices reaching gateway are underprepared for EPA and next steps
That’s why this advanced masterclass is so essential: high-impact professional development designed specifically for experienced apprenticeship trainers, coaches, mentors and leaders who want progress reviews that genuinely move learning forward and stand up to scrutiny.
Across two practical sessions, we’ll take you through step-by-step examples of how to:
- Set sharper learning objectives and stretch targets that drive real progression
- Build stronger links between curriculum intent, off-the-job activity and workplace development
- Adapt your reviews for diverse apprentice needs (high-flyers, struggling learners, neurodivergent)
- Lead more impactful conversations and capture real progress
- Use digital tools (including AI) to strengthen evidence without drowning in paperwork
During session one, you’ll work on ‘Objective setting and foundations’ and in session two ‘Troubleshooting and impact’
You’ll come away with templates, practical examples and straightforward changes you can apply immediately. You’ll also receive evidence of participation for your professional development records.
